Do You Know God Has a Love Language?

“God Himself is Love, so why would He still have a love language?” Those were my exact thoughts while I read a statement written by Addison Bevere as regards to God having a love language. Was I convinced? As we read on, you’ll know what my thoughts are and why.

If you are in anyway excited about this post because it pertains to love languages, then there is a probability you have read or heard of the book titled, “The Five Love Languages” by Gary Chapman. The original title The Five Love Languages – How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to your Mate was first published in 1992 (I was in my mum’s belly at the time) and since then has birthed about 5 other versions – for singles, children, teens, men and folks in the military.

Just in case you haven’t read any of the versions (seriously, where on earth have you been?!), the five love languages include; Physical Touch, Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Acts of Service, and Receiving Gifts. Before we delve into whether or not God has a love language, may I ask- do you know your primary love language? Mine is Words of Affirmation, and the secondary language I speak and hear fluently any day any time is Acts of Service.

In his 7 day-devotional, Addison shared how God revealed His Love Language to him. Everything he relayed about his conversation with God was quite revealing. Still, what stuck out to me the most was God’s simple yet deep statement to Addison- “I AM LOVE, AND FAITH IS MY LOVE LANGUAGE.”

“No one can please God without faith, for whoever comes to God must have faith that God exists and rewards those who seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6  Good News Translation

“Jesus replied, This is the work (service) that God asks of you: that you believe in the One Whom He has sent [that you cleave to, trust, rely on, and have faith in His Messenger]” John 6:29 Amplified Bible Classic Edition

God's Love Language

You want to speak God’s love language fluently? Have faith in Him and His Word. You want God to be pleased with you? Believe in Him and prove that you do. It is not enough to claim you believe in God without letting it show through your actions. Faith isn’t merely a mental accent or conditioning of the mind. Faith goes beyond the mental realm. Faith in God and His Word is rooted in our very essence, our spirits. It’s no news that our minds are battlefields. For us to win these battles as often as they come, we must constantly engage our regenerated spirits. Have you ever been in situations that look like a dead end? Situations that cause the devil to mock you and your salvation? Friend, the same faith that pleases God hurts as well as disrupts the enemy.

God is love and faith is His love language. Prayer is not His love language. Offerings and tithes are great. Still, those are not His love language. As a matter of fact, a prayer said and an offering given without faith will be reduced to a speech and a donation respectively. Great news is- just as you can learn to speak my love language and I learn to speak yours, we can learn to speak God’s.

How, you ask?

“So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ.” Romans 10:17 Revised Standard Version

To build your faith in God, you have to invest yourself in His word. Study His Word. Meditate on it. Listen to God-breathed messages. Feed your spirit. And work out that which you continually study and hear. It is in our doing that our faith is proven as valid, as faith without works is dead.

“And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets: who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.” Hebrews 11:32-34 New King James Version

You see how the faith of the above kingdom giants were validated? Through their actions! They subdued, worked, stopped, obtained, escaped, became. They lived out their faith in practical terms! So precious One, now is the time for you to do the same, not tomorrow. Now is the time to build and live out your faith.

With love and passion,

Ashley

PS. I’d consider today’s post totally incomplete without leaving you with the link to Addison’s 7-day devotional. I barely scratched the surface of all the lessons I grasped from the devotional based on his new book titled Saints. Click on the button below to enjoy what I enjoyed and encounter God in a deeper dimension. Cheers! And oh! How’d I forget- Happy New Month! I pray your faith grows in leaps and bounds this new month and beyond in Jesus’s Name. Amen!
