Do’s and Don’ts for Christians in 2022

Hi There. Happy New year! Truth is – the year isn’t so new any longer…but because this is my first post to you this year, there you have it. Multitude of Christians in 2022 started with prayer and fasting (like previous years) in order to seek God’s directives for the year. Major life-changing decisions and actions are being made as you read this. The decisions you and I make largely determine our actions. Once thoughts are harbored and take their full course, actions are birthed. These actions in turn become habits that determine our destinies.

For 2022 to be your best year yet, there are some do’s and don’ts for us Christians I’ll be sharing with you. Note that this list is in no way exclusive. You can’t do the same thing over and over again and expect different results.

Don'ts for Christians in 2022

  • Don’t limit God in 2022: Do not put God in a box. Like some will say, “I know God can do it but..” No buts! Friend, it will only be unto you according to your faith. Nothing more. Nothing less. (See Matthew 9:27-29) Stop limiting God. Stop acting like your requests are stressful to Him or you are pitying Him. Be reminded that God is the Creator of the entire universe and all that is in it. All our greatest prayer points combined are but peanut sized issues before Him. It is your faith or lack of it thereof that will determine the acts of God in your life this year and beyond. God can only work in your life to the extent you permit Him. It’s high time you expand your faith. How? Dive deep into God’s Word daily. Meditate on it. Read people’s testimonies. Recount God’s faithfulness. The more you fill yourself with God’s Word, the more your faith is built up. God can do the impossible. Remember, with God, nothing is impossible. So please, don’t limit God this year.
  • Don’t abuse Grace: Grace is not synonymous to irresponsibility in any way. Rather, it’s the absolute opposite. Apostle Paul said it best, “Should we continue in sin so that grace will abide? God forbid!” The one who appreciates the sacrifice of Jesus will never be comfortable in their sin. 2022 is the year to walk in the fear of the Lord. Actually, today is the day. The price Jesus Christ paid was not in vain. In case you are struggling with any sin, talk to (a) trusted Christian friend(s)  who can pray for you and keep you accountable.

“Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” James 5:16 NLT

  • Don’t play small in 2022: This cliche should be taken seriously. Do not dim your light this year. If God calls you the light of the world and the salt of the earth, it’s your responsibility to shine very bright and give savor to this world. (Matthew 5:13-16) Please, take time out to be flat-out fantastic at what God has called you to do and use that ability to serve people around you. Those dreams God has placed in your heart, birth them. Do it beautifully. This world needs the gift only you can give. Please, do not hoard it.

Do's for Christians

  • Get creative ways to evangelize in 2022: The need for Holy Ghost inspired creativity cannot be overemphasized. The goal is not to compete with the world’s creativity. Our assignment and focus is to occupy till Jesus returns. (Luke 19:13) The way we can do this is by engaging the Holy Spirit through prayers and taking time to ask the right questions. God has given you and I brains so we can think. I for one have seen the importance of the media in evangelizing. Please, if you have ideas you will not mind sharing, kindly let me know in the comments section.

  • Be open to change: In 2020, there was a huge change in our way of living as the COVID-19 pandemic hit our world. Mode of worship, schooling – almost everything changed. Worship centers who weren’t ready for online worship were adversely affected. Some businesses who couldn’t run online were shut down. While all the above happened, some others thrived because they were open and ready for change. We trust God we won’t have to experience such a deadly pandemic. Nevertheless, things can change. Many other factors can affect this world. Do not be glued to a particular way of doing things.  We need to be flexible, innovative and adaptable to handle whatever life might throw at us.

  • Take care of your mental health: Your mind is just as important as your body and spirit. Please, in 2022, pay attention to your mind. Take time to meditate often. Stay off social media when you need to. Numerous studies have discovered adverse effects of social media on one’s mental health. See a mental health counselor if the need arises. Book an appointment with a psychotherapist if you think that with help. Do not over spiritualize matters.

Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!” Deuteronomy 30:19 NLT

Friends, your choices will determine your experiences. The whole of 2022 is thick with God’s goodness if you will consciously it. Do not miss out on it.

With love and passion,

Ashley
