Judge not.

You are no one's God.

Special One

It’s a beautiful Friday today! I hope you feel the same way?
Glued to my chair as I type, I wonder, “How difficult is it not to judge? How hard is it not to pass a ‘comment’ about someone or something they did or failed to do. Yup! I have a story to that one.

Just yesterday, I made a firm decision not to think or talk bad about anyone regardless of what they’d say, do or not do. O my gosh! I failed to keep at it! I was so close to ending my day without passing a negative comment until…hmm. I’ll let your imaginations about my previous sentence run wild for a minute or three.

As I proceed, I’ll try not to defend myself or folks who (seldom, occasionally or often) talk about people. I might be tempted to, but one thing remains clear; God’s Word is the standard on here, not my thoughts, not popular opinions. I hope you still like me for this.

Today’s opening scripture is super enlightening. Did  you forget it already? Scroll  back up to take a glimpse of it.
Judging people is not our duty, at all. We take the place of God when we form conclusions or opinions about someone or group of persons due to their choice of words or actions. And maybe you just said to yourself, “How can I not talk when people say or do bad stuffs?” Friend, it might be hard but it sure can be done. When you itch to judge folks, talk to God about them, not to people. Do you get my point? Our Heavenly is the ONLY legit Judge.

“Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God?” Romans 12:1-3 [ESV]

The scripture right above hit home for me. I’m reminded that I have no excuse for judging anyone. You have none too. We need to understand that the wages of all sins, not some, is death. Imagine a lady castigating a group of people for stealing goods worth so much at a store, perhaps her favorite store. This same  lady ‘judge’ also happens to be an Accountant who only occasionally deducts and adds a few figures discreetly while balancing accounts and remitting funds at her place of work. In a bid to save her head, she claims that a few lies won’t hurt. Friend, the store bandits and the accountant are _____. I left that space blank on purpose. I’m learning how not to judge. Haha!

On a more serious note, only he who is without sin is fit to cast a stone (John 8:7). Estimating people’s capacity while analyzing their ill mannerisms doesn’t make you any better than them. By judging them, you inadvertently bring condemnation to yourself (Romans 2:1). Judge not and you shall not be judged (Matthew 7:1). That’s God’s law, not mine.

As Christians, there’s a great need for us to soberly examine our lives per time. Focusing on the mistakes of others only makes us oblivious to ours. The irony is that most times, the issues we analyse are meager when compared to ours (Matthew 7:3-5). Talk about hypocrisy!

People fight battles daily, the realest kinds. The background of families vary. Some persons have been through some gruesome experiences you have no clue about. Some are healed of their pains and some are not. Honestly, a lot of people need help. I’m not just letting you know. I’m telling myself, first. If we genuinely prayed for people or a person who hurt us or did something that’d make us judge, a lot of things will change about them, and definitely about us.

Let’s hear the conclusion of the matter.

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Ephesians 4:29 [NIV]

“Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.” Galatians 6:1 [NIV]

Special One, let’s keep looking unto the Author and Finisher of our Faith, the One who never casts a stone, but saves one from being stoned.

Live victoriously!

With Selfless Love,

Abba’s Daughter—Your Sister
