One Stone Is Enough To Hit Your Target

Four days ago, I had a great nudge to ask God for a certain need. As I was meditating on the next step to take, God reminded me of the story of David and Goliath. God, through His Holy Spirit then inspired me to search for 5 scriptures that address my need. Note that the Word of God is also referred to as a lively stone (See 1st Peter 2:4-6). This happened four days ago, but I didn’t take any action until yesterday evening. Thank God for His mercies. As I sidelined every distraction, I went on google for a search, and found a link that had 100 scriptures concerning my need. I sat down, and doggedly read through the 100 scriptures. After carefully selecting and writing down the five stones that best suited my need, I knew it was time to shoot my shots. I knew my faith signified the slingshot. I also knew in my heart that it was needful I declared the 5 scriptures boldly in prayers in order to get God’s directives and receive answers.

Friend, before I continue the narration of my experience, it is needful I let you know that God doesn’t answer our prayers merely because we know how to cry when we pray, or because our voices are very loud. Truth is- for God to hear and answer our prayers, we have to pray according to His will. Great news is- God’s entire will is His Word. If you can find your desires in His word, you are one step closer to receiving the answers you desire.

As I read the first scripture repetitively, I knew my faith increased with each read. In my spirit, I knew there was a shifting. I felt like a David firing his slingshot at his enemy. Before I rounded off with my 1st smooth stone, I heard God say these exact words, “One stone is enough.” Hence, the title of today’s post. I couldn’t keep it to myself! Thing is- I almost stopped at the 1st scripture. Thank God I didn’t. Because one smooth stone is enough doesn’t make the other four useless. Because one verse from the Word of God can give you the miracles you desire does not mean the other verses are irrelevant. Every book, chapter, verse, sentence, phrase, and word in the Holy Bible carry God’s power.  Even if heaven and earth pass away, every alphabet in God’s Words will remain (Matthew 24:35).

As I moved on to the 2nd and 3rd scripture, our adversary, the devil wasn’t have a filled day, so he decided to throw tantrums. Contrary thoughts started finding its way to my mind, and while I was declaring the 3rd scripture, I found myself thinking, “What if I’m done slinging these shots and nothing happens?” Before these thoughts could fully settle in my mind, God shut the devil up as He gave me the following words, “Goliath didn’t have to be killed twice.” I literally screamed as I searched for the scriptures in my e-Bible to make sure I wasn’t hearing myself. I was too excited. “One shot, one death? – Just one word is enough to settle that need?”  It’s in times like this that one begins to question their knowledge about the Bible. I made sure I read the verses below for confirmation. I needed to get rid of every iota of confusion.

39 David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.

40 And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.

And it came to pass, when the Philistine (Goliath) arose, and came, and drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.

49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.

50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.

51 Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw their champion was dead, they fled.”

1st Samuel 17: 39-40, 48-51 KJV (emphasis added)

Your Goliath Is Coming Down.

One  shot only took Goliath out.

Friend, what Goliath is currently challenging the goodness of God in your life? What situation are you tired of seeing happening and re-happening? It’s time to gather your smooth lively stones as David did. You don’t have to get just one word. Your knowledge of God’s word gives the enemy weak knees. The ball is in your court and the stones are in your possession. I wish I could hold your hands and shake you till everything I have poured from my heart leads you to take immediate actions. Do not wait for three more days like I did before you search the scriptures that address the solution you are seeking. Waiting sometimes can be costly.

Yesterday was a dream for me. A dream come true. You can make today a dream come through for you. Still, it’s needful to note – for your Goliath to come down, you must be prepared to sling your shots.

How do you prepare?

Heart Preparation. Until your heart is in the right place with God, you’ll always miss your shots. If what you are praying for will end up not glorifying God, you’ll need to go back to the drawing board. Ask yourself sincere questions. “Do I want this prayers answered for selfish reasons? If my desires are met, will it bring God Glory?” Until our love for God and His kingdom influence our heart desires, we will most likely want the wrong things, or we will want the right things for the wrong reasons.

We must be totally dependent on God to have our needs met. Totally. Not almost entirely. God doesn’t take 2nd place. If you go to God for a solution with an alternative hidden in your heart, you’ll be simply deceiving yourself. He knows your thoughts and frame. Why bother wasting your time? Trust in God with all your heart and never rely on what you think you know (See Proverbs 3:5-6). If God is our only option, if God has our undivided allegiance and attention, the results will surely show – the order of blessings that makes rich and adds absolutely no sorrow to it.

Gratitude is a must in order to receive from God. Thanking God for the previous qualifies us to receive the next. We can’t just bang on Heaven’s door, only to demand and declare. Regardless of the pressing need you might currently have, if you check really well, you’ll testify that God has been so good to you. David shared his testimonies of him killing a bear and lion with his hands by the help of God. Grateful hearts acknowledge God’s faithfulness. And the great thing is- the more thankful you are, the more tank-full you will become. I see God meeting all your righteous heart desires in Jesus’s Name.
