In a world where forbearance and submission is often mistaken for stupidity, where kindness has a time limit, where forcefulness and aggressiveness seems to be the only way to make your voice heard, realize this- there’s a better way in God’s Domain. God says, “give to receive”, the world says, “collect to receive”. God says, “lose your life to gain it”. The world says the complete opposite.  Indeed, the ways of God are in contrast to that of the world.

“Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.”

Matthew 5:5 KJV

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”

Matthew 11:29 KJV

The above scriptures are words that were spoken directly by Jesus Christ. He was the epitome of meekness. The One who was fully God dined with sinners, and died for sinners. If He said the meek will have the earth as their inheritance, then the jewel of meekness among other priceless jewels is what you and I should possess. According to Dictionary.com, the adjective meek means to be humbly patient or docile as under provocation from others; gentle and kind. Many of us are so full of ourselves. We live in a world of I, me, my, and mine. We love to be right, to have our way, at least 98% of the time. (I’ll leave the remaining 2% for the times we get tired of being right.) We often forget the fact that one of the fruit of the Holy Spirit is meekness (Galatians 5:22-23), and because we are God’s Domain, His house, we must exude the qualities of meekness. These qualities are expressed through forbearance, submission, gentleness and kindness.

Meekness is one of the greatest forms of strength. It is in no way weakness. Your ability to remain humbly patient even when under provocation depicts that you are not a slave to your emotions, or the environment you find yourself. Statements hurled at you or certain actions taken against you must not determine your responses. You might say, “Ashley, all that you have mentioned are easier said than done.” You are very correct. All the above are easier said than done. Nevertheless, it doesn’t rule out the fact that they can be done. Rome was not built in a day, they say. Same thing with great virtues- they take time and conscious effort to be built. If we claim we are CHRISTians, we have to show the fruits. Mere words won’t do.

One of the beautiful benefits of being a Christian is the fact that our perfect Example, Jesus Christ, is willing to teach us how to live meek lives. He is not asking us to go figure it out ourselves. He is pointing us to Himself, His Word. But the question is- how many of us are really willing to learn the virtue that’ll cause us to inherit the Earth? We’ll rather go learn the rudiments of having more traffic on social media platforms. We are more interested in learning how to monetize almost every of our abilities. Many of us are fast misplacing our priorities. We forget the main thing. We forget that as Christians, Matthew 6:33 ought to be our primary priority.

“But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.”

Matthew 6:33 AMP Classic Edition

“The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.”

Psalm 25:9 KJV

What a privilege given to us to have God guide and teach us. When God guides us, our destruction is never in foresight. When God teaches us, understanding of times and seasons is guaranteed. Friends, we have to make a commitment to live meek lives, daily. We need to rely on God’s Word to exemplify Christ. We need to study our Bibles regularly, Fam! A lot of us do not! Inspirational posts on Instagram and Facebook can not take the place of you and I consciously taking out taking time to study God’s Word. We’ve got to take the responsibility. It’s non-negotiable if we want to be led and guided by God.

In my last post, I wrote quite a bit about how our lives depend on the quality of our service. Truth is- you and I cannot truly serve except we are meek. If you haven’t read it, I suggest you do. And while you are at it, kindly take 3 quick minutes to answer the survey questions and get a special gift. You got thoughts about this post you’d love to share with me? Kindly leave them in the comment section below or send me an email. I look forward to reading from you.

With love and passion,

Ashley
