The Much Talked About Social Life

Hello, Dear One. It’s so amazing to have you on here (again). I hope your week has been amazing so far? Before I get to the nitty gritty of why I’m on here today, allow me to heartily wish every WOMAN a very happy International Women’s Day!  In the paraphrased Words of Chimamanda Adichie, a prestigious female Nigerian Writer, I’m glad to let every priceless WOMAN (Grandmother, Mother, Wife, Daughter and Sister) know this – “We matter. We matter equally. Not ‘if only’, not ‘as long as’. We matter. Full stop. Although it’s Women’s Day, special shout-outs to the amazing MEN. You all deserve to be celebrated all day, every day.

So Yes, with all the above being noted, let’s get to the gist of the day – The Much Talked About Social Life. I’ve heard the words social life too many times. At some point, I got tired of hearing it, until yesterday. Prior to yesterday, I used to get questions and statements that revolved so much around social life. Statements like your social life is almost dead and you have no social life irritated me. They still do. Every single time, I’d laugh it off. Yesterday, I heard the words but this time, it came differently. I heard God say to me – Social life is a scam without Christ. Was I happy? Oh, too elated! Truth is – I have a LIFE, a full life. If you choose to compartmentalize it, that’s fine. The important facts worthy of note are that I interact with people and I enjoy life! Nevertheless, I’m careful to ensure that my enjoyments are rooted in Christ. Friend, how about you?

According to Wikipedia, social life is referred to as an individual’s interpersonal relationships with people within their immediate surroundings or general public. A lot of people search for their identity in the wrongest places. They hang out with anyone in a bid to feel among or belong. Some think the cure to their unhappy or depressed state of mind is seeking just any social company. The reality about life is that One can have an enviable social standing and still be depressed and lonely. What a paradox. To build a social life, I mean, to build a healthy, godly and enjoyable social life, God has got to be at the helm of all your affairs.

It’s really pitiful how people engage in the pursuit of happiness and forget the fundamentals of life. A healthy social life is unattainable if One does not recognize the Author of life. Your spiritual life, your mental life, your business life, your social life, all your lives should be ruled by Jesus Christ. (LOL)  I don’t know if you get my point. God ought to reign in every aspect our lives. It’s funny how some of us Christians have certain acts, masks and modes of operation regarding different areas of our lives. Some act really pious at Church. Then they speak vulgar words to some persons who entertain them  in social gatherings, have a cordial relationship with their boss at work, and when they get home, they have the nastiest temper fits. Some other people demarcate their business life from their spiritual life. They really do not mind cheating their clients in the name of making cool cash. They regiment God’s operations in their lives. How unwise.

Dear One, in your life, let God be the God of all or not God at all. Let Him be Lord. If there’s anything I love too much about God is the fact that He loves to save the sinners. I mean, we were once lost in our sins, but see what God has done! God desires that we do not condemn the sinner. Love the sinner and hate the sin is the key. Still, it’s disheartening to mention that some of my Christian folks still accommodate the sinful words, thoughts and actions. I know we do not arrive at that place of perfection at the snap of a finger. Still, by the display of our fruits, we will be well known to all.

“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.” Psalms 1:1-3 [NIV]

Dear One, I earnestly pray that the association we keep will cause the Blessings of the Lord to continually follow us. May we not incur curses by the company we keep. May our delight in God and His Word be palpable for all to consider note worthy and emulative. All the above I pray in Jesus’s Name. Amen.
