Failing Faith? What To Do When It Seems Your Faith is Failing

Does it seem tiring to keep believing?  Is your faith failing? Are the answers to your prayers not forthcoming? Do you know someone who is currently finding it hard to navigate their journey with God? Dear One, do not give up. The fact that you still got faith tells a whole lot about you. It shows you’re one who is not complacent about a failing faith. That, my friend, is victory in itself. By being on here, you are several steps closer to reviving your faith to be stronger than it has ever been.

“Peter replied to Him, “Lord, if it is [really] You, command me to come to You on the water.” He said, “Come!” So Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw [the effects of] the wind, he was frightened, and he began to sink, and he cried out, “Lord, save me!”” Matthew 14:28-30 The Amplified Bible

A lot of us read the story of Peter walking on water and we become quick to scold him for not focusing on Jesus long enough. Because his experience is not our reality per say, it is easy for us to amplify the fact that he began to sink. We are quick to forget before he started sinking, he had the courage to get out of a boat where eleven other disciples shrunk in disbelief—as to whether it was Jesus or a ghost who strode towards them—on water!

My friend, if your faith is currently failing, I heartily celebrate you. Why? Because you have a working faith. This tells you are not a dormant Christian. I’m truly thankful to God you are still in the faith. Even though you might be currently shaking as you walk on the water of uncertainty and fear, my heart rejoices with you because you stepped out of the boat of disbelief and passivity. And I assure you, like Peter, you will not sink in the storm. Rather, you will rise and walk on water, with God.

What Are God's Thoughts About Failing Faith?

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 New International Version

God doesn’t derive joy in seeing you fail or fall. It is an aberration to think that God is waiting to punish you when you fall short. On the contrary, like Jesus helped Peter, He’ll lift you up. Understanding that God is your divine Partner in life’s race will give you the strength and courage to go through storms and not be consumed by them.

From the above scripture, we see God’s assurance of His never flinching presence in our lives. He promises to be with us through life’s journey, be it rosy or thorny. He asks us to be courageous and strong. This is simply because life is not for the fainthearted, and in us lies great strength and courage.

Two Reasons Why Children of God Experience Failing Faith

  1. We amplify our storms more than we amplify God’s Presence in our lives.
  2. We stand on anything other than the Solid Rock—God’s Living Word.
When you focus on the Author and the Finisher of your faith, life’s storms will not cause you to tremble. The first reason why many of us lose heart when we face unpleasant situations is because we focus more on the storms than we focus on God who is with us in the midst of the storms.

What you focus on becomes magnified. That is to say, if you and I focus on God and His unfailing Word, even when we go through fire, we won’t smell like smoke or be burnt. When we go through water, we will not drown. Why? Because our focus is on the Greater One. But what happens when we focus on storms? Discouragement, fear, and everything that is unlike God finds its place in us. For example, the reason why  some marriageable single ladies are unsettled, unstable, and fidgety is because they are more focused on their desires than they are on the God who meets every righteous heart desire.

Second, when one’s faith is not hinged on God’s unfailing word, it is very predictable that the person’s faith will fail. In the real sense of it, your faith is fake except it is grounded on God’s Word. If your desires are not in line with God’s, it invariably means that whatever you are building is done on sinking sand. And anything built on sinking sand is headed for a crash.

Ask yourself, “Are my desires hinged on God’s Word?” If your answer is in the affirmative, stand firmly with God on it. If you do, your desires will surely come through. This is because anything built on God’s Word is built to last.

Practical Ways To Revive Your Faith

The Lady is joyful because her failing faith is now Winning Faith
  1. Recognize that the Greater one is on your side. Not only is He on your side, He dwells on your inside. The One who is in you is greater than every storm that ever has been and will be ever be. (See 1st John 4:4)
  2. Resolve to remain in partnership with the Greater one. Reason is – you can’t be against God and not be swept by life’s storms. Your desires cannot inclined with that of the world and you expect to see miracles. The truth is—you can see magic. But miracles will only happen, supernatural encounters and victories will only manifest, revolutions will only be birthed when you and I partner with the Greater One, our Heavenly Father God.
  3. Repeat the above.
Dear One, God lacks the ability to fail you. Even if He tried, He won’t be able to fail because it’s not in Him to do so. If case you are shaking, recenter your focus on God. If you are falling, stretch forth your arms, God has been with you the entire time. God will wipe the debris off of you and give you new speed, strength and courage to finish this life’s race beautifully well.

Your faith will not fail in Jesus’s Name. Amen!

With love and passion,

Ashley
