Why Your Relationship With God Matters

Have you ever wondered why your relationship with God matters? Are you even convinced if the relationship counts? I mean – God is in Heaven and we are on Earth, or so some of us think. Truth is – it takes two to make a relationship work.  More importantly, one who is in a relationship with another ought to be present. He or she ought to care.  Friend, no one ought to doubt if their relationship with their Creator matters, because it does. Before I spill the entire beans here in the introduction, let me share three reasons why your relationship with God matters.

3 Reasons Why Your Relationship With God Matters

  • The need to RELATE is hardwired in us. Because we were created by God and for God, It is only natural to desire fellowship with Him. When a manufacturer creates a product with certain specifications, the product functions according to its manufacturer’s design. It doesn’t have the ability to choose otherwise. At least, objects and machines do not. For instance, our Ancestors—Adam and Eve—found it natural to fellowship with God. It was abnormal not to. Truth is – if you and I are not relating with God as per Creator and Creation, Father and Son, it’s an anomaly.
  •  Without God, life will never be truly lived. This reason takes us back to the manufacturer and product scenario I made earlier. Without the manufacturer’s manual, the product will only be utilized so well. Same thing goes with our lives. For us to live to the fullest, our need for a relationship with God should never be underrated. This is because we need God as often as we breathe. We need God to function here on earth maximally. Contrary to the science of human evolution, the Holy Bible tells us how we were created. Good luck to those who think they evolved from apes. In essence, the message I am trying to relay here is simply this – you need God to live and not merely exist in this world.
  • We were created to love and be loved. This is because we were created by Love Himself. Love is in our genetic makeup but hatred? Hatred and everything that is like it are foreign bodies to us. At least, they ought to be. Wickedness is learnt, and so is hatred. The language God intended and still intends for all His Children to speak fluently is the AGAPE language. And what better example could He have given than to let His Son die on the cross for our sakes? For love sake, He created us. Also, for love sake, He redeemed us. Why then will we not love Him in return? Why will we not walk in love towards Him and our neighbors?

3 Scriptures That'll Help You Appreciate God's Love

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 New International Version

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 New International Version

“The Lord appeared to them from a distance: I have loved you with a love that lasts forever. And so with unfailing love, I have drawn you to myself.” Jeremiah 31:3 Common English Bible

Love conquers all in our relationship towards man and God

Relationship With God VS Religion

There is a clear disparity between religion and relationship. Todd Wagner in his interview with Rick Smith clearly explains what a relationship with God entails. In a bid to gain favors with God, a lot of persons become religious and forget that Christianity is a love walk. It is not all about obeying rules. It’s about knowing your Father, fellowshiping with Him, being led by His Holy Spirit etc. Religion is the complete opposite. It’s about mechanically obeying rules. And the sad news is – your works are never the basis of your right standing with God. God’s Grace is.

Examine Your Walk With God

If you carefully watched the interview above, what did you think of your relationship with God? Have you been struggling with obeying rules? Have you been enjoying fellowship with God and getting to know Him more? Make no mistake – having a relationship with God will require that you obey Him. Nevertheless, your obedience to God’s instructions will emanate from a place of love and total reliance of God’s Holy Spirit as opposed to being religious (which is characterized by playing games of trade and barter or trying to gain favors with God).

The good news is – no matter where we are on the spectrum of building your relationship with God, you are neither too far for God to reach nor are you too close to not know more of God. There’s always more in God. The more we know Him, the more we discover a need to know Him even more. The more we fellowship with Him, the deeper our love for Him gets.

One thing that gets me excited about having a relationship with God is the fact that we can hear Him when He speaks to us. And that’s one reason why I wrote a book on it.
